Used new canon 7D with my Sigma 300-800 for some eagle pictures.

Dadgum! That's an amazing series! I assume from the sharpness that your Sigma 300-800 is an IS lens?

I'm a Marylander myself, from the suburbs of Baltimore. Where were those taken? I may have to drag my butt out there sometime when the weather isn't as nasty as it is this week.
What I said when I saw the Grand Canyon for the first time: "The wide ain't wide enough and the zoom don't zoom enough!"

No the Sigma 300-800 doesnt have any (IS) image stabilization. Your thinking of canon lenses like a 500 F4 or 800 5.6 . I much prefer zoom lenses, way way easyer to get a flying object framed, I zoom back get it in viewfinder then crank zoom in on it. Works great. I used a Gitzo 1325 tripod and a Bogen 3421 gimble head, just as stable as a wimberly but alot cheaper.

Eagles arent far from Baltimore about 60 or so miles. In Darlington. Conowingo Dam. Route one goes right over dam. Drive down Shureslanding rd to get to bottom of dam. Park right along river and setup right behind were you park. There is a new pier they put in last year and is close to dam. Alot of people shoot from there but i got better results up higher a little farther away from dam. On weekends it can get crowded.

That's a great series. These are some of the best BIF images I have seen with the 300-800. I know I have seen you there at least once. Well done.

    Excellent set of images. clap.gif

The dam is a very well known location for photographing eagles as your picture shows.
