Great series Brian. I have always wanted to do these type of shots but unfortunately my back won't allow me.

I used a 5dmk2/MPE-65/430Ex the shots are all focus stacked.

To do a focus stack on the mpe, is a macro rail essential?
Paul - I only just nip out into the garden for a short period when shooting in the cold.
Sion - no a macrorail is not essential - suspect it would be rather hard to use one for these. I just rest the camera lens on my left hand on the ground normally and control movement with my hand.

ah right, I think Ill have to give this a go then. Do you use a particular programme to do the focus stack? What magnification were these shot at btw?
Thanks

With a 1.6 crop camera normally using around 2:1 to 4:1.
I use zerene stacker for software stacking now but used to use the freeware combine series eg combinezp. However I do often stack dewdrop shots by hand just using the repair brush in PS.
