Best site to buy photo equipment in the USA

A young friend of mines is going to the US and would like to buy camera/photographic equipment and asked if I could recommend a place where he could buy with confidence.

As long as I know, the warranty of material bought in the US is not valid within Europe. A shame indeed. :cry

So, there is a certain amount of risk involved in this bought and he must buy at a reliable place.

To begin with I suggested B&H.

Would you recommend this house ?

B&H, Adorama and Tallyn's are all very reputable places to purchase from.

I also caution that the battery charger may not be appropriate for use except in the region of purchase. There might be a tax penalty buying outside the country when they enter their home country.

All things considered, I'm not sure that I can recommend that your friend purchase a camera here unless they plan on staying here for a fairly long time (like a student exchange program, for instance.)

I think the battery charger is no problem.
Neither the entry into the European country because he will be staying in the US for quite some time as student.

If they'll be in New England then check out Hunt's Photo; they've got quite a few locations and I always use them if I need something that will take too long to ship from Adorama, B&H, or Amazon.

In addition to B&H, Adorama has always given me excellent service.


mpex.com is another excellent vendor, that is the supported site for the Strobist. I have ordered a number of items from them several times, and even when they made an error, they corrected it quickly and easily without any difficulties or hesitation. Good firm to deal with.

Ill second Hunts if your friend will be in New England. Ive bought from them quite a few times and they are always helpful. Its also nice to buy from a local business.
