Canon Speedlite 430EXII buzz when turned on?

Good day,

I just unboxed a new Canon Speedlite 430EXII this morning and found that when it is powered on, it emits a very short (~1 sec.) buzzing sound. This buzz is in two pulses (buzz-buzz) and you can feel a small vibration near top of the flash.

For you 430EXII owners... is this normal?

Thanks!

PilotBrad, welcome to the Digital Grin. clap.gif

I suspect you are hearing the power zoom of the flash. Put the flash on your camera with a normal zoom lens also attached. Move the zoom through its range and half-depress the shutter button at the extremes of the zoom. If you hear the same sound as before, it is the flash's zoom adjusting to the FOV of your lens and perfectly normal.

    Ziggy,

Thank you for your welcome and for your response. You are correct, it makes the same noise when I zoom with the shutter button half-depressed.

    Thank you for your help!
