Galena, Illinois! I'd love to go back there someday and see EVERYTHING! We stopped there in 2003 while passing through on vacation, and took photos of the historic Turney House. I took this photo of the house (my kids standing in front) with my first digital camera, a little Fugi point and shoot. If you have photos of this house, or of Galena sites, please post them! Your photo of the church is wonderful, can't wait to see more.

    Galena, sweet Galena.
    Ric,

Last year I took some Boy Scouts to Apple River and we camped in the youth section of the park. We took a day trip over to Galena and had a great time. I love that part of Illinois, the closest things Illinois has to mountains.

No photos however. It was miserable weather.

...We live in Hampshire. What part of Illinois is your home?

I love this area as well. We took photos at Apple River Canyon SP last year at this time. Wonder if we were there at the same time!?!

The bird is a pidgeon. I guess that may give you a scale when trying to determine the size of the church?
