The first one looks almost like an astronomy shot. I have great admiration for those who do "milk drop" photography. Very technical shooting and the keeper ratio must be maddening.

Thanks all! You're right David, the keeper ratio is maddening. Those two were the only ones out of out 400 that I really liked. The rest juuuuust missed in terms of focus or "splashiness"
Setup was pretty simple, because I'm a newbie. I filled a coffee cup with milk, and added food coloring. I had combined red and blue to make purple, but noticed that it was swirling around to make a really cool space looking concoction. So before I mixed it, I took some pics of this combination.
I used a medicine dropper, camera on a table tripod, and just started shooting. For the most part, I shot in AV mode. Some PP done in Photoshop.
Try it sometime! It's fun, and the kids had a blast with the "experiment"
