I don't have a real photog's eye, but my 7D raw images look sharper to me in the released version of 5.6 then the previous. Has anyone else noticed this or am I just fooling myself?

I think you mean Release Candidate 5.6.

I'm not familiar with how Adobe deploys its versions so it may well be an RC, but the Photoshop product/spec' page lists 5.6 as the current version.
