Hello all,

There is a roadside memorial to someone who I am assuming died in a car accident or pedestrian incident at a corner by my house. I took some pics of it today and I am having a hard time choosing. All opinions welcome.

Here are the contenders:

1. You can see the whole memorial here.

2. I like this because it looks like the doll is looking up towards the afterlife and the breeze is blowing the purple streamers. Very symbolic.

This one you see more of the cross

Tighter shot of the whole memorial.

As is, I guess I'd go with #1. But for a reshoot, I would go with the idea of #2 with a dramatic sky of some sort put in. Not sure if you're into photoshop or not. :)

I do not have photoshop, I have ACD See so all I can do is change exposure, WB etc.

Thanks for the feedback. I reallly love 2, when I snapped the shot there was a ray of sunlight coming through as well but for some reason it did not come through on the pic.

My housemate liked # 1 as well. I want to put two in but I am not sure people would know what it was without background info.

    ACD has some effects options:

What do you think of this one?

Photographically I like the dramatic angle of #2, but without some kind of context (such as you gave us in your text), it's not really possible to tell what it is.

#1 doesn't work because one side of the cross is clipped off.

Which leads us to 3 and 4... and I think I like 3 the best :D

I have some shots from the front as well. I will post those later.

    Thanks for the feedback.

I like the last one the best. I would try and shoot the doll in the pool of water without all the memorial stuff. It would be clean and tight without distraction, and would convey the theme well imo .deal.gif

The water I added via ACD See, the ground it is in is actually dirt. I can crop it down to that and see how it looks.

    Thanks!

Of these two I like the top one the best for the competition. The bottom one is great don't get me wrong but I am not sure people would get it. I guess I will see what people say.

I think the quality of the close up is not as good as the one with the cross. The water begins to look fake.

Thanks for the input. I found another pic with a more frontal approach to the memorial, did the water and a few other things to it and entered it in the competition.

I usually do not try to add too much to my photos in the way of digitally enhancing but I figured I would have a go of it. I wanted to really get across the feeling of loss. I threw in some cloud vignetting and the water again. Here is the final version:
