Have you ever just been in a rut?

Lately, it seems that no matter what shoot, how I shoot it - it does not come out as what I was capturing in my head. I have gotten frustrated to the point where I am lacking the creative eye to even see things that I normally would shoot. Not sure if anyone can relate or not, but thought that I would ask.

IF you have been in this spot yourself, what have you done to get out of the rut?

I shot almost a full card (4GB) without one keeper, that is what pushed me over the edge I think. That and the fact that I missed some great great shots at Christmas.

I think we all get in ruts at one time or another. I have been in a few this year.

My suggestion is to try something different. Take on one of the challenges or one of Nikolai's assignments in the technique section. Go shoot one subject 20 different ways or spend a day shooting one F-stop. Another idea is to find a shot you like taken by someone else and try to replicate it. The idea being to just get out and shoot something different and shoot creatively.

Another thing you can do is place a bunch of these 'rut' shots (10 to 20) you have taken into a gallery and ask a few photographers and/or friends to view them and tear them apart. Someone else might see something there that you do not. deal.gif

Thank you for the reply. I tried something when I got home, uploading now straight out of the camera, not sure if I am found of it or not yet. Never shot anything like it, so I will post it in here and in the galleries. See what others think.

    Thank you again.
