A Roadtrip Through Low Country and Beyond
These shots were taken from our trip to Charleston, SC and parts of Virginia. We decided that this Thanksgiving we were going to be selfish and use our time off from work to explore some states we haven't been able to visit much. We took it day by day and really had no plan. We love to just play it by ear, enjoyed the sights and sounds of a place and got to know the local culture. We ended up driving 2,500 miles and we spoiled ourselves with great food and spirits. Thanksgiving dinnder was at a Cracker Barrel in Newport News, VA. The best $9 Thanksgiving meal you can eat!
It was cloudy most days and I didn't have my filters with me ugh so most of the skies are blown. Owell Enjoy.
#1 Charleston Harbor Flowers. It was a blistery day and we found ourselves rushed to see things. The food was amazing in Charleston. The harbor was full of tourists that seemed in a hurry to go nowhere.
#2 Older building in Charleston. The reds struck out at me with the gray background. I heard a Doctor lived in this building.
#3 St. Philips Episcopal Church, Charleston. The description states "Built in 1836 (spire completed in 1850), this stuccoed brick church features an imposing tower designed in the Wren-Gibbs tradition. Three Tuscan pedimented porticoes contribute to this design to make a building of the highest quality and sophistication." Established in 1681, St. Philip's is the oldest religious congregation in South Carolina.
#4 Alley in Charleston. This alley was peaceful and looked to be a fun place for a nighttime gathering.
#5 Appalachian Trail in Virginia. The famous AT symbol in the sign represents one of many markers along this 2000 mile trail. I walked 200 feet of it
#6 Spooky Very foggy and chilly morning in Shenandoah NP. Deer were very prevalent and would even walk up to the car with no sign of fear.
#7 Red Leaf. Layed on the ground to take this and when I got up my the leaf blew away with a sudden burst of wind. It paused for the picture!
#8 James River, VA.
#9 Pedestrian bridge over James River. My girlfriend in the background scurrying to get out of the shot. You could hear every noise on the bridge as you walked. Sturdy, yet frail.
#10 Dreary Day in Shenandoah NP, VA. We spent most of the day above the clouds. The drive through the park challenged our driving skills.
#11 Fredericksburg NP, VA. Infamous site of a Civil War battle. Fought December 11–15, 1862. The Union army suffered 12,653 casualties here. No ghosts that I saw. I was looking!
#12 The "Wall" at Fredericksburg, VA. Part of this wall still exists today thanks to a preservation effort by the Civil War Preservation Trust.
#13 Window of old house at Fredericksburg, VA. This is the Innis House where a family was caught in the Fredericksburg campaign and found themselves assisting wounded soldiers. Bullet holes from the war are still visible in the house.
#14 Williamsburg, VA. Last but not least our trip took us to Williamsburg and the Governor's Palace. This was a trail behind the palace that once supported the feet of Patrick Henry and Thomas Jefferson.
