I took this photo of my mother and father in-law this summer. I just saw them walking in front of me and I just had to get a photo of this.
I have to admit I love this photo, but I would like to hear your opinion on it.

What could I do to improve this photo?

Even without knowing them, I can see the attraction of this photo. That's a good thing to be able to translate to a complete stranger.

As is, this is a good documentary style shot. If you want to give it more atmosphere, you could try to vignette the couple, or play with the lamp post on the left side. Maybe clone out the camera strap on his back. Just a thought.

    Nice pic.

You might think about cropping it down a bit; the Rule of Thirds is not iron-clad and in this case, I think it would look better if the road and the people were centered.

I think there's a little too much above them, too. I'd try cropping the top of the frame down till it's close to the treetops of the 4th tree on the right side of the road.

    Thank you both for comments.

I guess I will have to play around with this photo. I will try and see if I can make it even better.

I tried to crop it, center it and add some vignette but I am not sure if I am satisfied.

What do you guys think? Does this look better than the original?

I think the last one looks a bit better. BUT, I would personally crop even closer, if the in-laws are the main subject. I would crop slightly above the steps that go up on the left side of the walkway, and a bit more from the bottom. I think that would draw more attention to your in-laws.

It's refreshing to see that some people haven't changed from their younger days, in walking arm in arm, or holding hands while out walking. I don't see that much around here anymore.

Yes, I agree. They have 9 kids, have been married for 50 years, and they are still holding hands.
I think it is very nice.

I hope I will be like that when I get old.

That crop is exactly what I was imagining, and I do think it's an improvement. I like it a lot.
