Consistent Self Portraits

Howdy All-

So many are probably embarking on various resolutions and the like for 2010. I have an idea but not quite sure how to do it. I travel a bit for work which is the part that is making my head hurt a little.

I want to try to do a picture of me a day. I want to make them fairly consistent in terms of face size and the like. However the challenge is the work travel. I always have my PowerShot 950 with me but other times I also have my XTi. Is there a way to have these look consistent?

Is there a way to keep the image consistent. I was thinking of doing something as low tech as a piece of string to keep the distance between and the camera the same. However I figured I would ask the collective brain power.

Anyone got any ideas?

I was thinking about figuring a way to do it with tethered shooting where I could view the image on my Mac while the camera is pointed at me, but couldn't figure out how to do that.

I think you're going about this all wrong :)

Instead of trying to be consistent, why not work on making each unique. Maybe keep some notes so as you make them, you can track what it is you did for that shot. I think the variety will do a bunch for your shooting skillz thumb.gif

I'd probably start with the power shot since that's the camera you'll have with you most of the time.

1 day down, 364 to go.

After spending some time with tripods and the like, I figured there are just too many variables unless I bolt the camera down. Since I am going to do it while traveling, that really won't work. I tried using pieces of string to get the distances consistent, not so successful. But at least I learned a few things along the way. thumb.gif

I am still trying to figure out if there is a way I can see what the view finder is seeing on my Macbook using either my PowerShot or the XTi. Any ideas?

You can't get live view but you might want to look at this.

I tried that and it didn't quite work.. okay I couldn't make it work. I am even thinking of doing this stuff under Windows (gasp) if I have to.

I already was very surprised by the results from just today. To say the colors vary is an understatement. These four pictures are straight out of the camera same room same lighting no windows... so pretty consistent, two from each.
