I think it's really nice. Your friend will love it!
The only think I can think of to improve it would be if you can add space on the right of the image and re crop so she is going into the image as apposed to leaving it.
It's interesting; being so clean and crisp, I see absolutely no hint of any movement. It's very static, from the statuesque pose, to the hat being frozen in mid-air.
Then I see "Dance"… …and think what is the purpose of this picture? To me, "Dance" implies movement, motion, action, blur, change…
Perhaps I'm missing the point…
How about using a slow shutter speed to get the blur of the motion, and have a strobe freezing the action, or multi-shot strobe to get multiple images?
To my mind, she's too static; what was your intention?
The processing is interesting, and the colour is intriguing…
I see the shadow of the leg, but it looks a bit skinny; would we not also see the shadow of the body and arms as well? Again, perhaps I'm missing the point… …sorry
Randy: Happy New Year bud...haven't seen you around in a while. Thanks for your kind words.
Heather: lol busted.....I got pinched on time so I forced it...I was also going to make the floor more smokey. I will work on it a bit more and update the OP.
Wil: Truth be known the pose was done with the specific intent of a different effect all together. I just started playing around with it. The intent was actually for a fire effect shown below as posed by the second model that day. I just saw an opportunity to use the shot to work on practicing different techniques to see if I could. The point of "DANCE" was because it is a dance pose and the dance movement is held at the apex for effect by the dancer. The young lady doing the pose is actually not a dancer but a diver and winner of the State Diving Championship here in MA.
