Found a local spot with circling seagulls to try my hand at BIF.

Learned that it ain't easy... Trying to track the birds with center focus and the 100 - 400 (shots 1 & 3) was really difficult for the first time. It was easier with the 70 - 200 (shot 2), but still not easy. Kudos to all of you who display all your incredible photos.

Thanks for looking and for the comments. #3 does "pop" from the background, which for me is currently as much luck as skill.

These are great. I like #1 the best though -- very different perspective than what we usually see. Good job.

Thanks! In #1, it has just taken off almost directly toward me.

Thanks! I figure it is a combo of luck and skill and I am currently relying more on the luck than the skill.

Very unique perspective in #1. It looks very surreal.

Nice shots for your first time! thumb.gif A 70-200 lens is great for shooting gulls like this. Bring some bread next time, and they will be even closer! mwink.gif

Thanks! The 70 - 200 was much easier to handle than the 100 - 400, though I expect that the closeness of these gulls is the exception and I will need more reach. The gulls were probably close because there is a flock of mallards that have made the area their home and people feed them bread often.
