My girlfriend and I spent New Years Eve in San Francisco. In hindsight, I probably shouldn't have brought my RICOH GR-DIII... I've always tended to go into "photography mode" and I should have dedicated the evening 100% to being with her.

1. Since we didn't want to deal with driving in the city, we drove from Palo Alto to Milbrae and took the BART to San Francisco. We met all kinds of interesting people along the way :).

2. We also saw some interesting shadows on our way to Castro street.

3. Our dinner was fantastic. We went to an Italian restaurant. I got a delicious plate of polenta and meatballs and Briana and I shared a nice wine.

4. These musicians were jamming it out in the BART station. They weren't particularly good, but it's awesome that they were out spreading the joy nonetheless.

5. Some of the people that passed by even joined in...

7. The lady above was causing a general ruckus. She was extremely inebriated and her boyfriend wasn't doing much better. These couple of photos were taken while we were waiting for the train from 24th Street to Castro.

8. We met some interesting characters inside the trains...

10. And outside, on our way up to Embarcadero...

11. Outside, people were having fun and drinking lots of... soda... from bottles.

12. There were big crowds

13. And small crowds

14. Teamwork...

15. The moment of New Years was really exciting. I regret getting caught up in the moment and taking pictures instead of holding my girlfriend.

16.Afterwards we made up.

Nice series! I especially like the shadow play in #2, on the way to Embarcadero (#11), and the expression of tiredness on the girl in #19, and the final one. Pretty girl!

    Thanks for sharing!

Very nice pics. I like the stories and comments.

I also know what you mean about being behind the camera too much - the wife says the same thing to me on occasion.

I enjoyed your series. Great conversions - a great gritty feeling.

Yeah, I know what you mean.. I still can't believe I missed the New Years Kiss with Briana. We are incorrigible types.

Thanks Patty & Richard! My B&W conversion method was pretty simple. From the original JPEG I used NIK Silver Efex on HIGH STRUCTURE mode, then I went in and did dodging and burning with tone curves.

    Happy new Years!
