Kids of Simonga Village - Zambia
While on a trip to Africa in November my wife and I visited Simonga, a village of about 4,000 people located northwest of Livingstone, Zambia. The people of Simonga live in mud huts and make their living through substance farming and a few other cottage industries. There is no running water (4 wells for the entire village), minimal sanitation and just about every health problem you can think of. Over 140 children in the village are orphans due to their parents dying of AIDS. This was one of the most moving experiences of anywhere we have traveled and there was combination of happiness at how kids could still smile and have fun in such hard conditions and sadness at what how difficult of a life they each had ahead of them.
The kids were super excited about our visit (except for one boy who ran away screaming who our village guide said possibly had never seen a white person before) and they all had a blast looking at their pictures on the back of my camera.
Full gallery can be found here.
I also added some wildlife images from the trip to a thread in the Wildlife forum here.
