Linking to galleries on facebook - no more thumbnails?

This is more of a facebook question than a smugmug one, but I can't figure something out - and guess you smugmuggers will understand it a hell of a lot better than the facebook support guys (no offence to them!)

I'm now using facebook as a marketing tool for my photography business. I know there's a feature request to link smugmug galleries to facebook albums or an easy way to copy photos, but until then, I have been posting links to my smugmug gallery within facebook.

It has worked quite well:



However now, I don't get that anymore. I just seem to get more text and no thumbnail whatsoever.



Any idea why that is so? Has something changed in smugmug or, more likely, facebook over the last week ?

It's really bugging me!

Any before you ask, both galleries are configured similarly and allow external linking, are not hidden, etc.

Right-click protect
Well, mea culpa

Turns out that for some reason, the right-click protect feature blocks the thumbnails from appearing in facebook.

At first I wondered if it was related to the fact I had a description or even some html code in my description (for paypal), but no, it was just a right-click protect function that prevents it!

Well, now I know and hopefully might be helpful for someone in a similar situation

I am not 100% certain it is the right click protection. Facebook has been doing some things behind the scenes, where one day thumbnails won't appear, but the next day they do. I have noticed this when my blog postings go up on FB.

I know what you mean Chester, FB has been quite up and down.

However I did "toggle" between both settings a few times in the space of a few minutes, and the appearance of thumbnails seems to follow the pattern.

I'm curious how this turns out. I know a lot of my galleries end up getting shared on fb.

My galleries were always RCP and it worked with Facebook in the past. A couple of weeks ago, the pictures indeed did not appear anymore though I did not change anything. I've not tried to uncheck the RCP though as you suggest but possibly FB might have changed something on their end in the mean time (in their privacy settings or so) so that the pictures don't come up anymore.

getting thumbs to show on a Facebook gallery post
What I found tonight is that I could only get the thumbnail to show on a gallery I was sharing if I set "show thumbnail" to the FIRST photo in the gallery! I was sharing two different galleries, via two different posts. Both galleries have all the same settings. But I tried three times to get the thumbnail to show on the message, and it would not... until I set "show thumbnail" to the FIRST photo. Neither gallery has RCP. The thumbnail I would have rather shown was the feature photo for the gallery. But that wasn't even a possibility because it only allows you to display one of the first 10 photos in the gallery as a thumb, and my feature photo was #17 or so.

Anyway, each time I tried this, I deleted the previous attempt on Facebook. As I said, I could not figure out why the one post had no thumb, while the post for the other gallery showed the thumb. Only when I clicked on photo #1 as my choice did the post show the thumbnail, the way I wanted it to. If this is the case, I wish it would not appear that we have a choice of thumbs.
