I live in upstate NY, and to anyone else out there that lives in a cold winter place...do you get any type of work in the winter? If so what kind, and how do you drum up winter, when nobody seems to be in any sort of mood to take portraits.

I've got you beat for winter - I live further north in New Brunswick, Canada. December and January are really dead months, especially since the bulk of my work is outdoor environmental portraits and horse shows (which don't happen at -20C!). So, I use December to unwind and wrap up the prior year and January to ramp up the new year - focusing on marketing and setting up my calendar for the coming months. Of course I'd NEVER turn down an opportunity if one arose. I'm thinking of hanging out at the local ski hill next time it snows - after I talk to the Manager or Marketing person.
