REPLACE PHOTO PROBLEM - What's Wrong?

I have received an order and have been replacing photos in a gallery for the past week with no problem. Replacing photos today has been a real headache. I have not been able to replace ONE photo. I keep getting the same error message: "There was a problem replacing. Try again?" I have even tried to replace photos in multiple galleries with the same result. What's wrong?

So sorry you're having trouble replacing. There are couple of reasons this may be happening. Be sure that the files you're replacing with are 1) in the sRGB colorspace. 2) Are JPGs. 3) Are under 24mb and 48 megapixels (6000x8000 px or less).
The last, and most probable, is that you may be replacing photos with the same exact file. If the filename, pixel resolution, and byte count of both files are the same, it will consistently generate this message. You can check both of these by enabling "Camera Info" in your Gallery Settings, then clicking the Photo Info button to see them in the gallery.
Any small change to the file will get around this, such as adding a tiny bit of sharpening, or cropping as little as a pixel or two from the replacement file, however, if you're replacing with an identical file, there's no real reason to replace at all. Be sure to doublecheck.
If you still have problems, give me a shout at the helpdesk and I'll get some files and specifics from you.

Thanks, Steve. I am replacing the photo with a file that has been retouched and resaved with a different file name. This is the same process that I have done with the other photos in the gallery for the past week, with no problems. This is confusing. I did email the helpdesk earlier, but I can try to send a file to see if you have the same issue. Thanks!!!!

I've had a look at the file you sent to the help desk, and strangely, the filename was surrounded by and included quotes, so the filename was actually:
"Indy Christmas_019b.jpg", which means the file extension was literally .jpg", and jpg" isn't a valid filetype so our system didn't know what to do with it.
After removing the "s from the filename entirely, all is well and the file replaced instantly.
Let us know if you have more trouble!

Using Mac OS 10.6.5 & Safari or Firefox
Replacement file starts upload at top speed and then essentially times out with no activity.
Hit Replace button again and error message is generated asking me to try again.
Select Replace again and the file uploads as expected. Some strange behavior at this point where the file doesn't actually replace the file in the cart, so usually try it again until the new file shows up.
Just weird that is started out of the blue and didn't seem to be related to a SM update or change in my system.
Anyone else having this issue or know of a work around?
