Oregon Wildflowers
Thought I'd offer these up review and comments. I've been trying to learn to hand-hold my Nikkor 70-300 kit lens, which I've found to be fairly difficult. Anyway, saw these flowers in my yard and thought they'd make interesting subjects. This is basically my first post (I'm trying to wean myself off "lurking"), so any and all comments will be appreciated... just remember that I have a bad heart. Incidentally, anyone know the name of the flame colored ones? A Columbine maybe?

It depends on lots of things, especially no medical reasons not to be able to hand hold.
Holding your breath helps, as long as that does not make you shakey. Leaning against something. Holding elbows in, getting as tight as possible, etc.
Taking shots in succession, hoping one will be in focus (can't usually tell on the LCD thing, so have to keep them all: a drawback, I really do need another card.)
Relaxing. That is a biggy for me. I don't notice it, as usually I am relaxed, but when I am sneaking a shot, I usually shake, am always surprised when I get home. Also, when it is a "big" moment, an important opportunity, or a really good thing, like the deer showing up, I am so excited, or nervous, those are times I might shake.
If there are no medical reasons not to be able to hold the lens still, I would suggest that you do it over and over again, ad nauseum, until you are no longer trying too hard.
Some things you just can't hand hold. I usually find that out when I get home, the little things give the shot away for me at a certain point after sunset. I think I can, and I can't. But I will probably try it, until whatever, as I am there, have the card space, and what the hey.
