Small town hockey

So I started a local hockey blog and it's been great fun. I've had the opportunity to see some great live hockey covering new teams in new locales. The best part has been seeing how passionate small towns are about their local Jr. C teams. Last night, I made my first trip over to Belle River to see the home team vs. the league leading Essex 73's. Quite a game. Here are five shots from the 200+ I kept.
1. Keep your eye on the bouncing puck
2. Ice chips anyone?
3. The thrill of victory
4. The agony of defeat
5. Boom goes the dynamite!
All shots Nikon D90 with 80-200 2.8, thanks for looking.

Thanks. In spots yes but overall, just average. I used ISO 2000 and up to make sure I had enough light and shutter speed.

Hey,
Just picked up a D700 and 80-200 2.8D. This might sound like a dumb question, but is the aperture actually controlled with the movable aperture ring as opposed to thru the camera as I'm used to?
Oddly enough I have a hockey gig this saturday, only with 6 year olds.
Thanks.
Max

Leave the actual, physical, aperture ring alone. Make any adjustments you need via the camera body's roller dials in front and back. Experiment with various settings to see what works. Generally speaking, I go with ISO 3200 F4 at 1/250th until I get a sense for the what the lighting will offer. Good luck and have fun!
