I wanted to post this here to share the experience and tell you all about some good music. All the pictures were taken with an Olympus C-750UZ since "professional cameras" were not allowed. This past weekend I went to Lolapalooza 2005 in Chicago. It is a concert with 60 bands spanning 2 days on 5 stages in Grant park in the middle of Downtown Chicago. Here is a brief synopsis of Lollapalooza Day 1. First off me and Brian got there way too early just sat around for hours unnecessarily. We wanted to miss any traffic and parking issues and get in line. Well it turns out there was absolutely no traffic, parking took all of 2 minutes, and we didn't need to get in line until about 30 minutes before they opened the gates. Needless to say, we got there at about 8AM and the gates didn't open until about 11AM. so we went and had breakfast, walked around Downtown a little and then sat on a bench. Well that's enough of that.
Once in we went directly to the stages and shortly after arriving The Redwalls took the stage.
They were pretty entertaining and I'd see them again, well maybe not as an opener but they were good.
After that was And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead
Again, they weren't bad but I'm still not sure of a band that has two drummers. The drummers were pretty entertaining to watch though, the one on the left just absolutely pounds on the drums.
Now we move onto the bigger and better acts of the day.
the Kaiser Chiefs are a great band and definitely worth checking out if you haven't already.
The lead singers voice was a little rough from a show in Washington(correct me if I got the city wrong) but still sounded pretty good in my opinion. Because of this he brought two people on stage from the crowd to sing (I could only get a picture of one of them).
It was pretty amusing. Then later on he brought out Beatle Bob for some dancing. If you know who I am talking about you'll know just how funny it is to watch him dance, it's comparable to the Elaine Dance from Seinfeld, except he adds some spins into it.
Then onto Bravery and Cake. They played at the same time and we watched The Bravery for half a song before losing interest and moving onto Cake.
Now I've never been a huge Cake fan but I'll have to admit that they were very good. I really enjoyed there set and wouldn't mind seeing them again.
The next band is one I had never heard of and maybe you haven't either.
They are The Black Keys and were extrordinary. I definitely recomend looking them up and listening if you can. It is a duo of a drummer and a guitar player. The guitar player is very good and shows it. If you like basic rock and roll done well by a newcomer than you will really like them.
The last band of the evening was Weezer but before they came out Perry had a surprise for us. Dancers for our enjoment.
As my friend Erin likes to say "Hooray for boobies!"
After the dancers were done Weezer came out.
Again, they were really pretty good, at least they were better than I thoguht they would be. Sorry the last two pics sucked but it was getting too dark and I was too far away.
The weather was much better than I thought it would be. It was a little hot in the morning when the sun was out bit then it got overcast and cooled off a little. Don't get me wrong, it was hot but not as hot as it's been.
Well that's it for day 1, I'll leave you with a pic of my friends Brian, Josie, and Steve.
