Olympic Coast

Funny story. I wanted to go to the beach. When I get there, there is no beach, just huge waves and gray skies. So I go to the forest in search of something interesting to photo. At the edge of a creek, I'm trying to photo some ferns on this dying tree hanging over a river. Next thing I know, I'm barreling down the bankside into the river! All that stays out of the water is my hand, which just so happens to be holding my camera. The rest of me is soaked as I swim back to shore.

This goes to show you, creeks are out to get you!

1. The waves were huge!

2. I fell into the creek for this photo

7. Strong wind and waves.

8. Hard light, but so what, a shot of the beach...what there was of it.

Wow. I love the second one - I wouldn't say it was worth falling into a river and almost destroying your camera though :D

I do like number six too

    Good effort.

I love your take on the little details of a slightly warmer environment. And the leaves were worth taking a slide for! Glad to hear you're safe and dry. :D

These shots make up a wonderful series. You can really feel the tangible beauty of being alone on a beach. thumb.gif

Thanks, it was fun to try. I look forward to going on a day with more light, but hey, these hard days teach me lessons and I certainly learned a few here I don't learn in the snow. Laughing.gif. My newer camera needs to use long exposure NR for one. ISO 1600-2500 is a bit high. And a towel doesn't hurt either rolleyes1.gif

Really nice series of shots. They give a good taste of the PNW. ;)

Tharhawk at sea-level!? Never thought I'd live to see it :D

Winters can definitely be interesting on the coast, high tide, big waves, lots of wind.

Really nice series and a unique take on ONP. The fern shot was definitely worth getting wet for (normally I get sprayed on from the tides, I have yet to fall into a creek!). Good choice to go B&W on these, I often do that for moody/foggy/overcast shots of the beach.
