How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Hi, bfjr. Nice to "meet" you.

I don't disagree...but considering that 3 seconds later he knocked me over to lick me in greeting, I was happy to have caught this. I liked the golden light of the setting sun on his coat (I'm happy when the russet tones pop), the look in his eye and the fact that I could see that retriever smile starting. My other shots that day never caught the light in his eye.

Sometimes he's more cooperative...I'll post a full shot later when I'm at my other computer.

    Hi to you, also, Harryb.

Okay, here is the big boy a couple of weeks ago...the fresh snow and noon sun (harsh!) highlighted all his white hair (two generations before him are a number of solid white retrievers). I like his look. He just spotted his archenemy--our calico cat. (Sorry about the bulky double-collar--he's wearing his radio-control unit because he's got run of our five acres--when he hears my beep, he comes right home.)

And here he is two years ago with his brothers (basking in the hot mid-day sun). :

Finally, here is a shot of his mom from some years ago (taken at Gold Bluffs Beach in Northern California with an old AE-1):

    Thanks for the warm welcome.

nice shots! I had a yellow lab years ago, she was with me 15 years. Nothing more loyal or unconditional than a retrievers love.

Got to visit my cousin for New Years. She has two 8 yr old labs Rags and Daisy that are 100lbs, and the puppy Becky who is only 70 lbs. Woke up new years morning with them jumping in bed to say hello. Here they are on their mom and dads bed:

They are the best dogs to have. Perfect temperment. If I show my girlfriend the puppy photo, she might stoop saying no to getting a puppy...

Hey...anything I can do to aid and abet a fellow dog lover...

Your cousin's dogs are beautiful! Thanks for sharing. We've owned a beautiful chocolate lab, a golden retriever (the mom pictured above) and now a golden ret/yellow lab mix (the big boy)....all were/are wonderful. Their personalities can't be beat.

I know dogs are impossible to photograph. (I have a GSP)

I like the light in this one and the framing would have worked if the dog had just turned toward you a bit to catch the eye.

Agreed, Ric. The only time it is easy to take a picture of him is when he's on point. I'll keep trying!

Ric, I noticed you listed a 7D among your cameras. How do you like it? I still use an old Rebel XT...I'm way behind the times and am thinking about saving up for something much better. I've used Canons all my life...my first was an AE-1.
