If I get one of the cheaper grips from ebay will all the cool battery stuff still work?

    Can't speak for them all ... Zeikos brand does, though. It fits well, is solid, everything functions identically to the Canon BG-E6. It just isn't Canon so there is no snob-appeal or Canon waranty and it costs $200 less. You can also get it from many of the quality brick and morter photography stores for around $80.
