Spring is the best time for wildflowers here in the North Carolina mountains, but summer offers lots of opportunities also. Here are a few I have stumbled across while hiking recently -

Here's a columbine - I didn't notice the bug until I looked on the computer

Purple Fringed Orchid

Fly Poison with 2 bugs doin' the horizontal hokey pokey

i can't believe it, another avill, nc photog. i've been on dgrin less than a week and now have seen postings from 4 other people in WNC. we do truly live in a photographer's paradise.

Hey Phil - thanks for the kind comments. I've noticed a few others in here from this area also - small world. I moved up here a couple of years ago from the Raleigh area. Came up in the late 90's to visit a friend that had moved up here and just fell in love with the area - especially the waterfalls. You are right about this being a photog's paradise. Don't tell too many people, tho - they might want to move here also.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

    Thanks Harry & Steve!
Those shots were taken with a Canon 250D close up lens attached to my Sony 717 - it's been a good combo for me.

I hope I can meet up with others in the area some time. I work 12 hour swing shifts, so scheduling might be a problem. It's the price I have to pay to live up here, but on the other hand, I only have to work 14 days in a 4 week period. clap.gif

Nice flowers, wonderful flowers from a low country sc dweller.

Much of the "old" charlestonian families have summer homes in NC. Kind of a sub group area for the charleston people. I think that is not in your area, though. Hendersonville comes to mind, but I could be totally off in the name.

I, in my younger days, you know from 35 to 55, spent a lot of time running around in WNC, all over. Wonderful mtns, wonderful area.

And, watching the growth here, in Charleston, you are wise to try to keep it a secret.

One thing I have noticed over the yrs is the Florida people, friends of my parents and others, have sold their primary homes in Florida in favor of the NC mtns.

You are probably getting growth now that as a newcomer you are not as aware of the "before". Be very careful. A bunch of people out to spend their money in the Carolinas these days..........I mean growth, not tourism.
