Interesting announcement from Google. Google Docs will begin allowing files of any type (that means RAW for us) in the cloud, up to 250 MB per file. Free accounts have a 1GB limit, but additional storage is available at US $ 0.25 per GB/year, which seems pretty damn cheap. I don't know whether this is a threat to the online backup services, but it sure is going to make it easier to move pics around.

The same article (which i can no longer find) also mentioned Microsoft's SkyDrive, which offers a whopping 25GB free cloud storage.
Something for nothing: does not compute.

I imagine they are trying to get everyone used to cloud computing and storage. Even 25GB isn't very much for all your data storage, and I'm guessing that you will see vastly better performance if the app is in the cloud as well. Once people get hooked, the thinking goes, they will gladly pay for expanded and premium services. Or as Tom Lehrer put it many years ago:
Because he knows full well
That today's young innocent faces
Will be tomorrow's clientele
