Does sort by date taken work for videos in keyword galleries?

To me they seem to. I have a gallery where all containing files are keyworded "australia". This galley is set to sort by date taken and videos appear all clumped together at the beginning. When I bring up all the same photos and videos by keyword gallery, the videos are dispersed in a very chronological looking order.

If true, why won't it work for a regular gallery?

I think it's a coincidence. The keyword gallery is probably sorting by date uploaded (or date modified?), which just happens to be the same order as date taken. But the uploaded video probably doesn't have "date taken" metadata attached.

Yeah, I suppose that could be the case. Thanks Dave!

Videos do not have the same Exif data that is used to sort photos by date taken. Most video formats do not contain any other information at all. or the camera and editors do not store it.

I would love to be able to use similar sorting etc for videos. Maybe in the future.

Any current way to bring in video keywords, captions or dates?
I love SmugMug and its organizing and customizing capabilities, but I've noticed (unhappily) that essentially no metadata comes in when uploading videos with the formats I've used to date (MOV, MP4, AVI) - is there any way to make that happen? E.g. XMP or THM sidecars, other formats, API, etc.? I know I can manually update keywords and captions right now, but I don't have a way to update "date taken" in SmugMug. If not, are there any plans in this area?

    Thanks!
    Jon
