Does anyone have experience with these? I was wondering if they are reliable. I can see them being useful for extended outdoor shoots, or at client sessions where you want to back up the memory cards as an added measure to prevent loss due to a card that dies.

I don't have the Adorama unit but I do have an older HyperDrive HD80 that works very well to both backup cards and act as an external USB hard-drive. I do like it for backup of a card but I don't think I would ever use it to offload a card to recycle back for immediate use in the camera.

No, I was thinking of a backup of an on location shoot. Basically once completed, copy the card data to the device (not eliminate the data on the card) just to prevent a problem with the memory card. You could be shooting all day, and get back to your office and scream. I can't imagine having to explain that after a 50th anniversary party or wedding or something similar that you had a memory card failure which "never ever happens". I know pro cameras have a dual write capability, but I have had issues with cards before without warning and all it takes is one failure to lose an important event in someone's life.

I looked at these, and the next gen of the Hyperdrive units. I even used an Epson for a week. But the cost of these is pretty steep, especially the Epson. The one you link to seems fairly reasonable.

But instead, it bought this: Dell Mini 10v. I got it for $269 at the dell outlet. It has a 160GB harddrive, and 10in screen. It is of course bigger than a photo vault, but for about the same money, is far more functional, and a 10in screen! Granted, I have to use a USB card reader, but I can even upload to Smugmug from this. I run Ubuntu, so don't have Lightroom, and not sure if it even would work on this machine, may have to give it a go someday.

    Anyway, an idea for you.

I can't attest to the quality of Adorama product but like Ziggy, I have a HyperDrive external backup device and swear by it. It's an absolutely fantastic tool! I have the ColorSpace O and it's quick to backup the large CF cards I have. Hard drive upgrades are also ridiculously easy. Spend a little more and get the ColorSpace; it's definitely worth it!
