In need of a sound editor

I need a sound editor to lengthen a couple of special effects sounds......one where I can cut and paste the sound to make it longer.
I am familiar with Sound Forge / W Architect but I do not want to spend that kind of money for this one time project for a church.
Looking for something in the free ware realm.

Thanks guys.....Awais....do not use any nero products:D I am a roxio person....but nothing in the Roxio sweet I can do that with.........
Will ..... greatly appreciate it.......seems in doing a search that somehow bled over into one of my external harddrives I downloaded Audicity over 3 yrs ago and never opened it....do not even know why I downloaded it......
But will give it a try as well as Wavosaur.....both freeware so nothing to lose.
On the low end I use Goldwave and on the high end Adobe Soundbooth. Frankly Goldwave can do just about everything you need to shorten, lengthen and in between.

Got my curiousity up now.....is Adobe Soundbooth the new version of Adobe Audition or totally different?? A local sound engineer swore by Audition.....even for Ringing out mics in some of out largest venues that I had the pleasure of working with him.
Adobe Soundbooth, version 2 is a stand alone sound editor. It is in the CS4 family. My understanding is that Audition is more powerful in terms of people working with voice-overs and music mixing. Soundbooth has some powerful features including background music mixing.
I have used Soundbooth and it has a pretty steep learning curve. I use it quite often to edit videos or flash when I have to clip or lengthen the sound.
Like I said, I also use Goldwave (cost=$49 lifetime license) and it is much easier and I think better for noise reduction. Link is here: http://www.goldwave.com/
