Has there been a change to the copy function?

Recently wanted to duplicate a few images in one of my galleries so as to move the duplicates to a second gallery.

Okay. No problem. Select image, then Tools - Make a Copy. Good. Image copied.

But wait! The duplicate is now shown as the first image in the gallery, not next to its twin. Why?

Further investigation reveals that the EXIF data in the duplicate does not contain Date Taken or Date Modified.

Why not? Never had this problem before in the 5 years I've been with Smugmug.

The gallery in question:
http://ghealy.smugmug.com/gallery/10897228_Ev7as

The initial photo:
http://ghealy.smugmug.com/gallery/10897228_Ev7as#760714821_RpDb7

The duplicate image:
http://ghealy.smugmug.com/gallery/10897228_Ev7as#767568646_5G3SX

So I ask, has there been any changes to the Make Copy function?

By date taken, ascending. And that is the problem because the duplicate EXIF does not contain any dates.

    Gene,

I am afraid nothing yet. You'll want to subscribe to our Release Notes blog, so that you don't miss a single update from SmugMug :)http://blogs.smugmug.com/release-notes/ at the bottom, there's a link for Entries (RSS) - put that in your favorite feed reader.

Thanks Doc. Already subscribe. Guess trying to correct all the other bugs that were created with collections & Smart galleries are taking up the resources. <grin>

I just noticed this problem myself. A question on the fix. Is the exif data in the copied files right now and will this data be available when the bug is fixed.....or will we have to re-copy the files to ensure the exif data is copied along with it. In other words, is copying a photo currently deleting the exif data?

    thx.

you'll need to re-gen the display copies (watermarking, rotating left/right).. that'd do it.

    Thanks Andy.

Now, this is an issue though. When I copy an image in a gallery, it doesn't show which one of the two images is the copy and which the original. So now I have copies and copies of copies of many images and I can't tell which the original is. So, I'll have to re-upload all of these images!!??!?

    not good.

Are you sure Andy? This is a problem with the original. Generating display copies doesn't fix up the original, does it?

Good point - I may be wrong. I'll check when I'm back from Mexico, thanks.
