Easy way to break links?

I both like and dislike the permalink feature. Most of the time I like that when I move images to new galleries they have the same URL to get straight to the image. However there are some times I would like to not have the link stay constant. Basically break it for people that have it bookmarked. I realize I can go in and download my site and reupload it as new galleries using Star*Explorer, but figured before I did that I would ask.

Then again it would be a chance to review everything again and cull a little more critically.

To break a link to an image, you can make a 2nd copy of the image and then delete the original (make sure you delete the right one). The new image will look the same visually, but have an entirely different URL.

To break a link to a gallery, you'd have to make a new empty gallery, then move all the photos from the original gallery to the new gallery, then delete the (now empty) original gallery. If the original link did NOT have a gallery number in it, just nicenames, then you have to give the new gallery a different nicename too.

    Thanks John.

I am beginning to think of just using Star*Explorer to download everything, cull them, then reupload. Any other suggestions?

There is a third party program to copy from one gallery to another directly. I'm sure it will also create new share links. Might want to try that. It would probably be a bit faster.

Thanks. I am beginning to think that the going through and culling them manually is not so bad. I found that I had duplicates of entire galleries. I also have found some photos I had forgotten about. So it is pretty entertaining:D .

I wish I had time like that. I haven't even had a chance to go through all the photos I've ever shot. Managing over 200,000 photos is not easy...eek7.gif
