Cross Country Trip

From NY to CA. Sad reason (mom is losing her fight to breast cancer, so my wife and 2 kids and i hopped in the van, on FMLA leave to spend time with her in CA indefinitely), but managed to have fun along the way as a family and grab some photos in the process.

We went south first to NC, then west from there, to avoid the snow belt, and it worked.

Will probably grab more photos on the way back of areas I missed, but I'm happy w/ the ones I did manage to get.

We went Charlotte, NC > Memphis, TN > Amarillo, TX > Flagstaff, AZ > CA

here's the link...just click "Show Info" on the upper right so you get the description as to the place the photos were taken.

The other thing I should have said is that some images are of places I've been before and they bring back some nice memories.

The jewelry shots were pretty good. None of the landscapes were really that compelling though. I am working on a tentative cross country trip specifically for photography in the summer of 2011 and I'd love to hear any spots you think I should go. I'll be traveling west directly from New Jersey.

    Best wishes to your family.

Stay off of the interstates and toll roads. They are mostly boring. Get to know the small towns. Plan your trips to catch special events in these small towns. Hit the cities for big events or attractions only. Plan trip so that you can leave out places and get more involved with where you might be.

At least one of your photos (the village you shot from the rest area at about mile marker 114) was the village that Ansel Adams used in one of his moonscape shots. Try to take the back roads home. I know you will be pressed for time, but if you go through Oklahoma City around sunset and after stop to see the Oklahoma City National Memorial. It will be very educational for you children. The museum closes at 5 I think.

Keep clicking. The more you shoot the more you improve.
