Guandu/Tomatoe Worms

Not so cold where I live, found these while picking guandu and tomatoes.

Found on ground near my tomatoe plants! Was almost 6" long when he streched, about 3/4" diameter.

Yes, I see some strange insects in my garden!

Yes, sometimes they are large...

And sometime they come in groups, either way they make short work of the leaves on the plants.

I googled "privit hawk moth" , not sure if they are in Panama, but the photo looks similar to a moth that was in my garden a couple years ago.

On 14 Sept 2007 several caterpillars like the one below made their cocoons on a tree in my yard.

On the 23rd of October 2007 the moth emerged.
