How to load a font into PS CS2 on Mac OSX

I don't have a font manager software or anything fancy like that.
any suggestions on how to load one font into PS CS2 on Mac 10.4.11?

This can be done manually, however, Apple supply a very basic font manager in the Applications folder - Font Book.app

I am not sure if you will have to quit out of open apps first, or if you can load fonts with the apps open for them to be recognised.

I use FontExplorer X from Linotype (they offer an unsupported free version)
