The Ice Plant - Right out of Avatar

Recently saw this on a trip to Chile. Had seen the plant before but never in bloom. It was so full of flower buds, with no leaves in sight that I thought it was something different.

After a bit of searching I fount it was also edible -- wish I had tried.

Looks as if they should be a marine plant,very colorful.
