Sprayed this camelia bush with some sugar/honey spirullina spray before the sun hit it to see what was about. As soon as the sun hit the bush there were about 20 bluebottles on it but shortly after some hoverflies appeared. Have a guilty feeling the drone fly must have been hiding somewhere when I sprayed the bush. The other two hoverflies spent about 30 mins trying to avoid the camera.

Smallish hoverfly- think it's either Platcheirus or melanostoma sp.
Larger hairy eyed hoverfly- think it's Eupeodes sp.

Lots of desires
A question though. At how many X magnification do you take these pictures? 5X?
/Stefan

Stefan think these are around 1.5X to 2.5X.
Phil - neither is a 100% crop although the 2nd one is closer to that. Funnily enough I asked a question about how to express lower crops on POTN and it seems there is no accepted way of doing it. But the originals are uncropped.

Sorry for my newbness but I've gotta confess I'm a bit lost on how these shots were taken.
Stephan asked about magnification and you said 1.5-2.5x. Is that different than using a teleconverter? Something done in post processing or in-camera?
THe magnification was slight shorthand - meaning 1.5:1 to 2.5 :1. this translates as 1cm of subject giving an image 1.5cms long to 2.5cms long on the sensor. I was using an MPE-65 lens which zooms from 1:1 to 5:1 magnification so it's all optical magnification.
