I shot this picture on our deck this morning testing a new lens. I was pretty pleased with the result, so I uploaded it to SmugMug so I could show it to someone else.

Oops! The colors don't look the same. On both of my monitors at home, the original looks VERY red. But viewing it on the smugmug gallery, the red is very muted and rather bluish:

What's going on here?

It's probably in the Adobe 1998 color space. Before saving out to JPG to post on the web, do Image/Mode/Convert Profile and convert to sRGB profile.

    Thanks. Maybe this is better:

    A little bit...

Can you give a technical explanation as to why this is necessary?

There have been quite a few discussions regarding Color Management. It may take you a week or two to look through all the disussions headscratch.gif

    You might start here:

    rolleyes1.gifYes, me too!

Thanks for the compliments on the picture, but really, it was the camera.

I was testing out a lens I just acquired- Nikkor 28-200 f/3.5-5.6. This is not an expensive lens, but it performs remarkably well, I think. It will be my main lens for an upcoming trip to the Canadian Rockies.:):

I'm glad you got the color closer to what you wanted.
