Once you get your hands on it you will fall in love; it's awesome.
It's a lens with a learning curve. I have been shooting with it, but I still feel like there's performance hidden within. I was playing with it at a dinner with friends and it was performing ok. However, I tweaked the camera slightly later and was stunned at the image in the LCD. As always, It takes a little time/patience to figure this lens out.

Do you mind if I ask what you tweaked in the camera later? I also have a D90.
Well, at first, it was very very dark, and I was wondering what the heck I did. Then I realized I was using center weighted metering, and changed it to matrix metering, and all of a sudden, it was like someone turned on the lights....I'll upload images later. Mind you I keep the ISO at maximum 400 also.

Matrix metering with D-lighting set to normal is a good combo.
so I rented a Nikon 24-70 2.8 yesterday in Seattle. I loved the lens, but there was one thing that I noticed that I wanted to ask all you current users about. The zoom ring seemed really stiff and at times was incredibly hard to move. Have any of you users noticed this problem?

do you guys have any 24-70s you are trying to sell?
I find that Dlighting strips contrast out of the image. When I shoot, I do it in raw and add dlighting later in CaptureNX2 if I want it.
