Sharp-shinned Hawk

From my window. This hunter caused a lot of commotion when he ascended. Huge flock of birds feeding on mountain ash berries on a tree near by suddenly exploded away . . .

    very clean shot also sharpies do not show up much and this is a great example of a juv .The tree gives a proportion for size ,tail is right from the bookdeal.gif .Very hard to tell a coppers from a sharpie most of the time you have a coppers .

    Very good capture. thumb.gif You can often tell if a raptor is in the area by the reaction of the other birds.

    Wasn't exactly sure of the breed until I checked my iBird Explorer and consulted with a family member who is a biologist.

    There were hundreds of finches that quickly took off in a large "bird cloud". Even the local squirrel took shelter under a branch.
