There is always more noise in the lower quarter tones.

Are you talking about the lateral aspect of HER right eye?

I see something that could be in-camera JPG compression issues. Smooth tones really require shooting in RAW and then careful post-processing to preserve as much smoothness as possible.

If you can't re-shoot then use some smoothing technique in Photoshop or similar image processor, but localized to just the problem areas. The clone tool would be suitable here.

yeah, I was thinking they were compression issues, as well. However, this was shot in RAW, and exported only once. It looks identical in PS. I did remove some noise in LAB mode and some minor skin smoothing, but this noise wasn't there before all that.

Maybe it could be from the Noise Reduction itself.

I suppose that the noise reduction software could have mistaken it for detail and left it unfiltered. It could also have something to do with the conversion and back through LAB color space. Were you working in 8 bit mode at that point?

Yes. I didn't think there would be any data loss between LAB and RGB
