The park is located near Medora, North Dakota. These were taken after a two day snowstorm and the Sun had not melted off the red scoria caps yet the park is known for. Not to mention the high for the day was only -10 degrees F. Brrrrrrr!

This area of North Dakota is part of the Badlands.

Later in the day, I did find some scoria.

Scott, these are fun to look at. I was there several times in 05 shooting in June. The mayor of the town said that the population of Medora went from 4 thousand to 40 in the winter, now I really know why:D Although, after seeing your pics I believe I would really enjoy it, well maybe a few weeks maxrolleyes1.gif

    Marc,

I can confirm what was said about Medora. It looked like a white ghost town. I think I saw only a couple of trucks moving about as I drove back and forth to get to the Southern part of TRNP. The road that goes up and around a large portion of the park was closed so I have a lot more to explore when I go back later this year. My daughter took a job in Dickinson which was the reason for my visit and want to go back when it's a tad warmer. :D
