Who Gives Permission To Shoot

When you want to shoot school events like sports who do you approach for permission, and what should you be able to show them to get the permission? I am new to this area, and do not know anyone. My photos from beyond left field just don't do the job. I want to be standing inside the park, not out on the highway.

A lot depends on the sport and level. You'll find things more restrictive as you move up the ladder - pretty laid back at tee-ball but for HS baseball it's more restrictive. What level of play are you talking about? What is your goal in shooting that sport (for fun, for practice, for print sales, for freelance media, what?) Do you have kids on the team?

I would start with the school's Athletic Director, then the coach.

In exchange for a free pass to all school athletic events I give the yearbook or school paper free images if they want them.
