I've shot many boxing events before, but never with the 7D, that is until last night:

    Thanks guys.

It almost feels like cheating- I had to work harder with my 40D and with fewer options.

Looks like it picks up the little details (sweat) a lot better than the 40D.

    cheers, Scott

    Thanks.

Dylan- Advice taken! I just came back from shooting Golden Gloves (amateur) boxing.

Scott- yeah, there's definitely more dynamic range with the 7D over the 40D.

I have big time camera envy right now. Seeing these shots will make taking the plunge so much easier.

    Great captures.

I have a friend into MMA and I am hoping to get my 7D before he quits. lol

Great series. I always love your fight shots but these may be the best I seen you post. Very crisp and well exposed with good action. One of the best ad campaign yet for the 7D. Great Job!

Great Shots! I really like the first and last ones.

Curious, what ISO were you shooting at or was it in Auto, and do you use either of the Priority settings or Full Manual? I just got my 7D but haven't had the chance to shoot much with it yet (I did play with the off-camera flash trigger though-sweet!).

I was wondering the ISO also. You can see the noise in the first one, so I would assume that you were at 4-5000 or even higher. The 7D is very capable at a high ISO which is one reason why I love this camera so much. I shoot a lot of concerts and the band usually doesn't like the flash, so I rely on that a lot.

Love the second to last one. Contact was perfect in that! Great set!!

    Thank you x3.

I only shoot in Manual for fights.

I was shooting at iso 2000. The first image's noise was no doubt attributed to the fact that it was over a full stop underexposed, and had to be adjusted in levels.

RAW or LJPEG? CS4 or something else?

    Thanks,

Very crisp and well timed shots.

Have you ever shot with a 1D MKIII? If so, how does the 7D compare to it?

I am in the market for a body upgrade and I am struggling with choosing between a used MKIII and a new 7D. I typically shoot hockey at ISO1600 (all my XSi can handle without looking like a stipple point graphic) at 1/800 and f/4.0 with a EF70-200 f2.8/L IS lens. I cannot use a flash because I am behind glass.

I was told from a pro sports shooter that uses a MKIII daily and recently bought a 7D. He said that the MKIII has better ISO sensitivity and shot buffer capability but the 7D is newer and can shoot video.

All I want is a tack-sharp hockey photos in manual at ISO1600-3200. The video does not interest me.

TJ- I shot medium jpegs, "normal" quality, and adjusted in PS2. I am a non-RAW shooter.

KC- No, I moved up from the 40D, which is what I shot with for the past 2 years. From all the comparisons I've seen drawn most people agree the 7D is a big step up from the 40/50D, and very close to or just behind the 1D MKIII, and some sports shooters actually thought the 7D was better. I agree about the 40D comparison, but have no first hand information on the 1D's.

How quick of shutter speeds were used for these? Were you using a flash too?
