Anonymous 19th Century Image Needs Identifying

i figure dgrin would be the best place to figure this out. This image is at the Paul Paletti Gallery and is from the !9th century. Paletti does not know where the image was taken or who took the image. art history majors help us out and identify where this photo was taken. maybe even who took the photo.

BTW, the link you gave doesn't offer different size options and is right-click protected. Maybe you could change the gallery settings.

Yep, that sure looks like a match. The statues are all gone in the new pic...perhaps they're all in the British Museum.

it looks like a match but the floral pattern on the left doesnt appear on the columns of the current day photos. does anyone know where the statues went for sure?

A 100 years ago things were quite different. The british took away a lot of stuff. For example the Kohinoor Jewel. All over India there are palaces with lovely glass works missing or broken.
100 years ago they were magnificient, now they are ruins.
The pic indeed takes you to the past
