Every once in a while the weather is right for a full moon rise in the winter here in the California Sierra Nevada Mountains. This is the January "Wolf Moon" rising during an incredible sunset. The snow was like it was on fire.

All I can say is - WOW!!!

That is a beautiful shot. The moon does not look like that here in the south. That one would be hanging on my wall.

Ok, so I've tried to shoot that same shot with no results.

    What settings did you use?

    Hey Keith that is fantastic.

When the moon is that low in SF, it's orange, there's so much atmospheric interference; it 's not a bad thing - it's just different

So......... that secret lens you have; that has a dof of a few thousand miles, where did you get it?

    What settings did you use?

    Camera Model Canon EOS 40D
    Tv( Shutter Speed ) 1/100
    Av( Aperture Value ) 5.6
    Metering Mode Evaluative Metering
    Exposure Compensation -1
    ISO Speed 100
    Lens EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM
    Focal Length 400.0mm

Here is the original. It was a very deep red and looked too dark, but close to what the eye was seeing.

Just short of Silver Lake. It's a pullout near the Bear River Overlook.
