I'm heavy into the airshow photography lately. Don't see too much of this topic on the forum. Here's one from the Reno Air Races. Lots more at my SmugMug Gallery.

I, too, love airshows. I'm looking forward to getting to a couple this year. The photos below are from the 2008 show in Brunswick, Maine, my first and only (so far) show. There are many more shots from that show on my site. Enjoy!

Went to two last year. Look forward to more this year. Might even be able to wrangle a long tele photo lens for this year. Currently looking at Tamron 200-500 f/5-6.3 lens. It would certainly have the reach and seems to be getting good user reviews. At $900 sounds like a killer deal to me for a 500mm lens.

Anyways

F-16 at wings and wheels in St. Thomas. Could not get onto the airfield so was stuck at end of the runway.


Stuck at end of the runaway allowed me to take this beauty though. More glass needed, lots of cropping here.



I was also in Columbia, Mo for the memorial day airshow.

Sweet Heritage shot I find those to be the most challenging do to the perspective rate of change. And even when it's lined up just right, you can find inadequate DOF to cover all the a/c. And we all know how the perfect lighting conditions are at all airshows.

All this talk about heritage flights...

My dad saw this shot and commented about how it had been many years since he has heard of a P-38 in Canada. So last Christmas I gave him a 12x18 framed and signed copy of this photo. Came out pretty nice at that size, but unfortunately, the quality was a little low for any larger. But at 1/50 s shutter speed and 120mm focal, I guess the IS was doing it's job.

I had to remember to slow down the shutter speed to get a blur on the props.

Watsonville CA has a small airshow every year. The interesting thing here is you can get right at the end of the runway and get shots as planes come in overhead.

I have really been enjoying this thread!! Great pictures everyone. I am very much looking forward to the airshow this year in Spokane @ Fairchild AFB. They have gone to a every other year schedule and I really missed the airshow last summer. We will have the T-birds back again this year and I will get to try out the new to me Tamron 200-500.
Here are a few shots from 2 years ago using my Sony a700 and pretty cheap Tamron 70-300 lens.
