Square thumb from a real copy displaying on original gallery page

This seems like a bug, in that I haven't seen it before that I remember, and is not a desirable trait... On this page: http://www.winsomeworks.com/Travel/China-1985-to-1987 (which is a page showing the galleries in my Sub-category "China 1985-1987") you can see there's one square thumb. That square thumb is the featured thumb for this gallery: Southwest Petroleum Institute, Nanchong which is the 2nd gallery shown. Not a biggie, but it sticks out like a sore thumb :D . Sorry, couldn't resist! Odd, because that gallery has thumbs set to "original", and even the thumb when seen in that gallery is correctly displaying as original.

Anyway, the only reason I can figure that it might be doing this is this: I "made a copy" (real copy, not a collected one) and put it in this gallery: http://www.winsomeworks.com/Art/Cascade-of-Colors/Yellow-as-the-Sun/10058431_2Y96U#436509952_fCStY As you can see, I use square thumbs for that entire gallery, so once I'd moved the copy of that photo from the original gallery, I cropped that thumb (it's the last photo in that gallery) to "square" using the Tools>More>Crop Thumbnail tool . That should not be affecting the display in a completely different category though, right?

    Anna Lisa,

I think I see the problem. What appears to have happened is that you featured the photo that is in this gallery: http://www.winsomeworks.com/Art/Cascade-of-Colors/Yellow-as-the-Sun/10058431_2Y96U#781835086_8VK2Y

while the photo was in this one: http://www.winsomeworks.com/Travel/China-1985-to-1987/Southwest-Petroleum-Institute/11130712_dQuNN#782571275_LCtqg

So what is happening is that the feature photo for the second gallery is taking the settings from the first one. mwink.gif When you moved the photo, the feature photo retained the link to it.

You can see that if you look at the properties for the thumbnail on the second gallery.

Simple solution would be to just feature the photo that is in the second gallery instead of moving them back to the correct locations. I just did that for you and it should be correct now. I hope that helps.

Hmm, Doc, I see what you mean, but I don't know how it happened. In other words, I featured the only photo there was awhile before I ever made another copy & moved it. Unless-- maybe from what you're saying I could have copied the original & then moved the wrong one... ahh, that may be it. That would make sense, as I'd guess it's about the only way you could feature a photo that's in another gallery. Thanks- I'll bet that's it! Better than a bug-- thanks! Will have to watch out for that in the future.

That is my thinking exactly. Because they look exactly the same it would be very easy to move the wrong one. Like I said, its very easy to fix by featuring a different photo for the gallery. I am not sure that there is a way to "fix" it other than not allowing you to feature a photo if the photo does not reside in the gallery. Now that we have Smart Galleries and Collections, it may not be as big of a deal either. But will keep an eye on this for the future.
