I found myself at the AMA Grand National Ice Race in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan a few weeks ago. (Stepson was there for snowboarding) It was a cool event.

It was hard to get a clean background:

Any advice from others who shoot ice racing would be appreciated. I'd like to find another event to try again.

    Hey Mike,

What did you think of the event? It was my first time shooting anything like that and it was a learning experience for me since I am used to mainly shooting MX.

I was only there a few hours, but it was a cool event. I got a lot of panning practice in. It was awesome watching them come out of turn 4 crossed up and throwing snow.

    I'll bet it was! rolleyes1.gif

Nice shots, Mike. Only one criticism - on my monitor, the snow in your shots looks a little gray, and the photos look a little dark. In the photos Airtime70 posted, the snow looks noticeably brighter and more natural. I usually find I need to overexpose a little when shooting snow scenes.

Hey guys, nice work, looks like it was fun. I'm in Michigan also, went up and shot the snowcross in Gaylord and then over to Atlanta to shoot the rally cars a couple weekends ago. Any interest in hooking up to go and shoot this kind of stuff and learn from each other?

Sure. Just need to find an event. How was the Sno*Drift?

Snow Drift was not as impressive as I thought it would be. There were only a few nice cars the others were pretty rough. Next year I will sign up early for media credentials, access is not real good without them.
