First post for me and it’s a big one!
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
It’s been a while since I looked at the Eye-fi cards, but as they appear to have been improved I’m getting interested again!
<o:p></o:p>
However, I have a number of questions and getting specific info on these here in the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:country-region><st1:place>UK</st1:place></st1:country-region> is difficult. Actually getting any info has not been that easy but this site seems to have a few users so here goes.
<o:p></o:p>
I use Canon 1D Mk III, 5DII and 20D cameras, sometimes two at once and I am debating whether to change the 1DIII for a MkIV.
<o:p></o:p>
I know that the Eye-fi is SD only so would plan to use it mainly with the 1D (either III or IV) but would intend to try it with an SD to CF adapter and wonder whether anyone has had success using Eye-fi and the 5D/20D type of camera in this way.
<o:p></o:p>
I have three main uses. The first two are in the studio, or on location, shooting portraits and products, whilst the third is shooting sports.
<o:p></o:p>
In some instances I would wish to shoot raw and in others jpeg, or maybe sometimes raw to the CF card and jpeg to the Eye-fi for preview and display, which I would imagine would be quicker.
<o:p></o:p>
In the studio I would probably send everything in raw to the PC but when out in the field as I shoot more and also sometimes high speed sequences, I would probably wish to send only selected images using the protect feature. Sometimes I could be using the network and other times just ad-hoc to the laptop.
<o:p></o:p>
Is the Eye-fi software easy to change depending on the required use on any particular day? Is it simply a case of firing it up and changing a couple of parameters?
<o:p></o:p>
I am also having trouble finding out what file transfer times like. How long does it take to transmit a raw and/or a jpeg image on a MkIII and a MkIV?
<o:p></o:p>
I understand that the new pro x2 cards are coming. How different are these going to be compared to the 4GB Pro cards?
<o:p></o:p>
I don’t have 802.11N wireless on the laptop so will I see any benefit from the X2? If there was a real gain then I would look into changing the network card.
<o:p></o:p>
Finally does anyone know when the new cards will be available in the <st1:country-region><st1:place>UK</st1:place></st1:country-region> and whether they will be being demonstrated at the Focus on Imaging exhibition in <st1:City><st1:place>Birmingham</st1:place></st1:City> <st1:country-region><st1:place>UK</st1:place></st1:country-region> in March?
<o:p></o:p>
Thanks in advance.

The whole point is to keep improving isn't it? :-)
    <o:p></o:p>

Our corp site in the UK is lacking behind the US. We're working on fixing it. We've only recently launched there, so it's taking us a while to catch our breath. The cards are also sold through Apple stores, throughout Europe, AND, if you go to Apple's .com sites, in any EU country, they'll ship to anywhere, even if there are no Apple stores there...
    <o:p></o:p>

Nope. PLEASE DO NOT use CF adapters Please read that link. Please stick to using the Eye-Fi Cards in SD/SDHC slots ONLY.

    <o:p></o:p>
I have three main uses. The first two are in the studio, or on location, shooting portraits and products, whilst the third is shooting sports.

We have many pros that are doing just that. Just browse the web. You'll find tons of info.<o:p></o:p>

    <o:p></o:p>
In some instances I would wish to shoot raw and in others jpeg, or maybe sometimes raw to the CF card and jpeg to the Eye-fi for preview and display, which I would imagine would be quicker.

Yup, that's exactly what I do, and many others do, in the studio. You can shoot RAW + JPG to different slots, to the same slot, only upload JPG's, only upload RAW, both, etc... Totally up to you.<o:p></o:p>

    <o:p></o:p>
In the studio I would probably send everything in raw to the PC but when out in the field as I shoot more and also sometimes high speed sequences, I would probably wish to send only selected images using the protect feature. EXACTLY :-) <o:p></o:p>

    <o:p></o:p>
Is the Eye-fi software easy to change depending on the required use on any particular day? Is it simply a case of firing it up and changing a couple of parameters?

We'd like to think so ;-) It was made for non-tech-savvy consumers. Since you're a pro, you should have no problem. That said, TODAY, the current Eye-Fi Manager is a web app, and in about 2-3 weeks, we'll release our Adobe AIR app, which will replace the web interface. Either one is great, but we've been asked to provide an app, so that pros could manage their workflow, while they're not online. The web app needed an internet connection. The AIR app does not. So soon, not that it's not easy now, but it'll get even better. But please note -- we've been selling these for 2+ years, in the US, Canada, Japan and Europe -- our existing software is easy to use and is rock solid. That's one of the reasons that the leading camera OEM's like Nikon, Canon, Casio, Sanyo and Pentax have all started building Eye-Fi Connected cameras. They're accepting us as the industry standard for adding Wi-Fi to cameras.

Take a look at this link

That link doesn't even include yesterday's 3 Canon camera announcements. Like I said before -- we're behind in updating our web pages, even in the US.
    <o:p></o:p>

    <o:p></o:p>
I am also having trouble finding out what file transfer times like. How long does it take to transmit a raw and/or a jpeg image on a MkIII and a MkIV?

We intentionally make that hard to find. The reason is -- it totally depends on your set-up, how far you are from the router, how good your router is, etc... We tend to under-promise and over-deliver. I can tell you that with the X2, I've personally measured about 10mbps. At peaks faster, and sometimes, slower.<o:p></o:p>

    <o:p></o:p>
I understand that the new pro x2 cards are coming. How different are these going to be compared to the 4GB Pro cards?

    Very different:
    8GB vs. 4GB
    true Class 6 vs. not
    Endless Memory
    802.11n<o:p></o:p>

    <o:p></o:p>
I don’t have 802.11N wireless on the laptop so will I see any benefit from the X2? If there was a real gain then I would look into changing the network card.

No prob. The cards will step down to g or b. n usually gives the added benefit of extended range...<o:p></o:p>

    <o:p></o:p>
Finally does anyone know when the new cards will be available in the <st1:country-region><st1:place>UK</st1:place></st1:country-region> and whether they will be being demonstrated at the Focus on Imaging exhibition in <st1:city><st1:place>Birmingham</st1:place></st1:city><st1:country-region><st1:place>UK</st1:place></st1:country-region> in March?

soon ;-) Hopefully in a couple of weeks... Just stay tuned via our mailing list
    <o:p></o:p>

    Thanks in advance.<o:p></o:p>

Awesome. Ping me anytime with questions... Our forums also have tons of info. Eye-Fi's forums aren't nearly as cool as Dgrin, but they have useful info :-)

    ciao --
